Tummy Tuck / Abdominoplasty
Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is the fourth most common cosmetic surgical procedure among women. It can give you a smoother and flatter abdomen.
If you are unhappy with the appearance of your abdomen, you may want to consider a tummy tuck. If you have loose or sagging abdominal wall skin and muscles, often the result of multiple pregnancies or previous surgeries, an abdominoplasty is a procedure for you to consider. If you are unable to tighten the abdominal wall skin with exercise, a tummy tuck can improve your appearance.
There are different kinds of tummy tucks. There is a mini-abdominoplasty, which tightens only the skin of the lower abdominal wall, but also leaves the shortest scar. A modified abdominoplasty addresses conditions where just the muscle or just the skin require repair. A standard abdominoplasty, which leaves a standard size scar, tightens all of the abdominal wall skin and muscles. If you need an even bigger change, an extended abdominoplasty will do more than a standard one, tightening the flanks and sides, and leaving the longest scar.
Liposuction may be considered in addition to a tummy tuck.
Where we will do the procedure and the type of anesthetic depends on what you need to have done.
PROCEDURE RESULTS:
- Different anesthesia techniques are used. Total intravenous anesthesia with an epidural block is often used in the outpatient setting. General anesthesia, (with a breathing tube), may occasionally be required, especially if the procedure is performed at the hospital.
RECUPERATION AND HEALING:
- One to three days assistance at home is usually indicated.
- You will be encouraged to be moving and walking regularly within 1-2 days.
Light activity is comfortable in10-20 days. Sports will not be comfortable for about 6 weeks.
