Many women desire larger and more shapely breasts, and many decide to undergo breast augmentation surgery. In 2007, more breast augmentation surgery was done by plastic surgeons than any other, single, surgical procedure. The general trend has been toward increasing numbers of augmentations, as the procedure becomes safer and less invasive.

 

Breast augmentation surgery has evolved over the years. It is now a simpler procedure that can be done on an outpatient basis without general anesthesia. There have been changes in techniques as well as implant materials. As of today, both saline and silicone implants can be used. Silicone implants have been FDA approved for women at least 22 years old since 2006.

 

There are many choices in terms of size, shape, and type of implants. You can discuss with the doctor which implant is the best option for you. Our doctors have many years of experience doing breast augmentations. Dr. Feldman has been doing breast surgery for more than 20 years.

 

This procedure might be right for you if you want larger or more shapely breasts with less sagging. Breast augmentation can also improve the appearance of breasts when one is noticeably smaller than the other. The improvement in appearance often gives women a more positive self image.

 

Sometimes a breast lift (mastopexy) can be done with a breast augmentation, for a much enhanced appearance if your breasts are also sagging. You can discuss this with the doctor during your consultation.

 

Breast augmentation can be done on an outpatient basis at our Surgery Center…

 

 

·        The procedure can be done on an outpatient basis under total IV anesthesia at our Surgery Center.

·        A small incision is made under the breast, around the nipple, or under the arm. A saline or silicone implant is inserted under the breast tissue, or under the breast tissue and the underlying muscle.

 

 

·        The patient goes home in either an ace wrap or an elastic bra to help hold the breast in the correct position.

·        Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication.

·        Sutures are usually removed in 7 – 12 days.

·        Light activities can be resumed as tolerated. Aerobic activities can be started in about 3 weeks.
